Evulid Matrix Server Rules and Info

Important Info

Feel free to shoot me a message if you run into any issues. If I don't know about it, I can't fix it.

Rules

I really don't care what you do on this server and take a laissez-faire attitude toward moderation. But I do have a few rules that you must abide by in exchange for this freedom.

No child pornography. Can't believe I have to specify this. If you violate this rule I WILL find you and KILL you. This isn't a legal issue, it's a moral one.
Do not interact with child pornography or the homeservers that host and/or link to it.
- There are a few very big and popular homeservers that host and/or link to child pornography and you are prohibited from interacting with them. I'm not going to list them here since the list occasionally changes. I've blocked these homeservers on the network level which means you shouldn't really worry about breaking this rule.
If you are doing anything shady, please make sure it's encrypted.
Don't do anything that would make the feds knock on my door.
If you violate rule #4, please make sure to follow rule #3.
Don't degrade the service. For example, don't do things like this:
- Excessive hotlinking. This server isn't meant to host your files. Also, I pay Cloudflare to cache media on their global CDN so please don't waste my money.
- Joining rooms with over 2000 members. Synapse doesn't really handle large rooms well (it must contact every server and every member in the room). I will occasionally check to make sure everyone's following this rule and delete rooms that are too big. Please contact me for exceptions.

You agree that you'll follow these rules, and understand that if I reasonably think you haven't followed these rules, I may (at my own discretion) terminate your access to the site. I promise to be fair in the moderation of this homeserver.

Other Notes

This isn't a rule, but I don't approve of using this server for degenerate stuff. There are a million other Matrix servers dedicated to this sort of thing so please take it there. If it gets out of hand I will start nuking stuff. Or just encrypt everything and I'll never know...

Data Privacy

Your data is processed in my basement on the oldest, loudest Dell PowerEdge and stored on the cheapest hard drives I bought from random boomers on Ebay. I respect your privacy.

I log metadata from incoming HTTP requests for service and security purposes. It isn't kept forever and occasionally purged.

Uploaded media is pushed to Cloudflare and stored on their CDN and R2 storage. Old media on there is occasionally deleted to make room for new stuff.

Old metadata in the database is purged more often than Synapse defaults to.

Public Archival Bot

Public rooms that are published to the server's room directory will be publicly viewable through matrix-archive.evulid.cc. This enables search engines to index valuable information.

If you do not want this, you have two options:

Set your room's history visibility to something other than world_readable. The archive will only display rooms where the history is world_readable. Remember, a room can be public without world_readable history.
Ban the bot:@matrix-public-archive:evulid.cc. Your room will still be listed on the archive but will not be viewable.

Files uploaded are the responsibility of the Poster. Messages are owned by the Poster.

Conclusion

If you disagree with these rules, find a different homeserver or host your own (it's really easy).
